This monument pays tribute to the soldiers who died during the November 3rd, 1988 coup d’état attempt by a group of Maldivians. They were assisted by armed mercenaries of the Sri Lankan terrorist organization known as People’s Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE). They were defeated by the assistance of Indian Armed Forces.
