Resorts in Maldives are self sustaining and they exist on their own private island. These range in size from 2 sq km to multi-island resorts. As for shopping, majority of the resorts will have a retail shop for souvenirs, apparel, jewellery and other essentials. Most resorts offer excursions by boat to nearby local islands or the capital city, otherwise you will stay on the resort island for the duration of your stay.
