The Malé Fish Market is located along the inner harbor on the north side of the island, just west of Republic Square and Presidential Jetty.
It is the best location to catch a glimpse of Maldivians’ daily lives. This is the commercial epicenter of the fishing industry. It is here in the fish market of Maldives that dhonis from different parts of the country unload the dried fish, fresh fruits, and vegetables collected from the various atolls.
In the afternoon as fishermen sail right up to the edge of the market and unload the daily catch. Tuna is the most popular fish for sale, but you’ll find some other types as well.
You’ll find the best selection in the early morning and after 3 pm in the afternoon. Don’t miss the impressive fish cutting while you are there.
